  1. Early on in the race we ran past what looked to be a nursing home type facility -- the third floor of a building was lined with elderly people watching and waving through the window. One really old gentleman stood, waved his arms over his head, and then clasped his hands together in a victory wave -- all for me. (At least that's how it appeared to me.)

Loved the sign "You've done worse things for much longer". But the truth is, the whole race was fun -- I smiled the whole time, waved often, high-fived any available fans (mostly kids), ate a cookie, and was AMAZED by the support for World Vision. I was never an athlete or on a sports team, so the cheering for ME was a first. (And I loved it!)

  2. Also loved the man in the full bear costume with the sign "Run like a bear is chasing you."

  3. Well, for those of you who haven't heard. We had a great experience running(and completing!) the marathon. I would have to say though, the highlight of my weekend came at the finish line. Once we exited the finish chute and linked up with Rachel Cole's parents, I got down on my sore knee and proposed! For those of you who are wondering, Rachel said yes ;) We had a HUGE audience and had a few people in tears(other than us) and got plenty of cheers.

    What a great weekend!!

  4. Congrats, Michael and Rachel! What a great way to finish the race and begin your engagement!

One of the highlights for me was the start. Standing what seemed like miles back from the elites. The crowd giving a huge cheer when news that the gun had gone off at 7:30. Seeing extra clothing flying through the air as people shed layers in preparation to run. And then actually shuffling toward the start line for about 25 minutes before we actually officially stepped on that start line. That was all crazy excitement and anticipation!
